Overcoming Creative Blocks

Where are the ideas?

The creative is there, but nothing comes out.

The longer you stare at the page, the more nothing happens. It’s frustrating at first, and you keep trying until it feels overwhelming and debilitating. Overthinking all the reasons why it’s not going to work.

It’s been done before! The fear sets in, and you may never create another thing in your life.

Then the excuses come… “There’s just not enough time in the day to create… I have too many obligations, and I’m exhausted… The block has set in, and it feels like there is no way around it.”

This is how you can “get out of your own way.”

We’ll do it by tracking the patterns of why, when, and how your creativity gets blocked.

Certain thoughts get in the way – thoughts like…

“I’ve never done something like this before.”
“I’m not as good as (fill in the blank).”
“What if everyone hates it?”

The thoughts feed the critic in our minds that remind us that perfection is the only way to be accepted. The perfectionist will only be satisfied with perfection; and, as we all know, no thing or person is perfect.

Unworthiness sets in and eats at our self-worth, and we eventually feel despair. You just want to give up.

You look for inspiration. It seems so easy for others in your field to create, and all you can do is compare yourself to them. Instead of inspiration, the opposite happens – another round of the critic merry-go-round.

Your identity is part of you as a creative. If you have no ideas, than your identity feels in crisis.

I will help you to quiet the thoughts and soften the critical voice.

I provide a comfortable space to normalize your process and find solutions to clarify the emotions that are underlying the block.

Together, we’ll find ways to rebuild your confidence by looking at other times and places that you have been successful at moving through a block.

We’ll also look at potential thoughts that are currently causing the block to fill fully connected again.

It’s an emotional endeavor, but I’ll be there to guide you.

I will be there to guide you through the swirling thoughts, mixed emotions, and dread. The critic can cause havoc on your self-esteem.

Therapy is a place where you can express those emotions. A place to reflect why you want to do this project, job, or creation in the first place.

I’ll help to settle down, slow down, and connect you to the values that fuel your decisions to pursue your creative dreams.

Let’s get you on your way to the next big thing.
