Individual Therapy
Just wanting to feel better…
Struggling to find a way to make yourself feel happier, pretending to the outside world that you have it all together, is exhausting.
Friends wonder why you’ve stopped reaching out. When they do get a hold of you, you say, “I’m fine,” or “I’ve been really busy.”
What your friends don’t know is the loneliness you feel that causes racing thoughts and panic. You can’t fix the thoughts of feeling like nothing will change.
It’s too hard to admit that you can’t fix yourself. You decide to reach out for help, because it’s becoming too much to handle – wondering what it will be like to talk to someone.
You finally call and hear the voice on the other side that says, “Thank you for reaching out…”
… and you feel heard and not so alone. You breathe a little easier and are glad that you got through the first step.
When making big decisions regarding work, relationships, creative projects, and bends in the road, pressure from these decisions can look like doubt, indecision, and panic.
This is where you get to tell me your story…
It’s nice to be able to talk to someone who is not a family member or a friend. They want us to be okay, of course… but, it’s often difficult for them to understand why we don’t just “snap out of it.” What they don’t understand is your ability to hide.
I will be there by your side while you allow yourself some time to let go of control, if only for a short time. I will be there to allow the pressure to release a little at a time. When the pressure is released, you can uncover the pain that is masked in everyday life, and we will find your own strengths to make change.
I will give you a chance to look at your life story in a new light and make connections that bring clarity and confidence.
Here’s how we’ll get started on our journey together…
First things first: I would like to talk to you on the phone about how therapy can help. It’s totally free to schedule this 20-minute consultation. We’ll discuss why you are seeking therapy, how I work, and if we feel as though we’re a good fit.
It we decide to proceed, we’ll schedule an appointment for your first session. Arriving at my office door located off Main Street in Longmont, you’ll work your way up a flight of stairs. Suite 3 will be just ahead on the right. You’ll walk in and have a seat, and I’ll come get you from the waiting room.
Then, we’ll go over some paperwork that explains our working agreements with each other, your rights as a client, and consent to treatment. Then… we’ll begin.
We will have previously spoken, so I’ll have some familiarity with your story. But you’ll now be able to go into a lot more detail. You might be excited to get it all off your chest… or you’re welcome to take the time you might need to feel more at ease.
Here’s what I’ll be listening for…
I am here to listen to your story and your struggles, and ultimately help you feel connected. Connection will come through clarity of values and meaning.
When you are feeling lost, it’s easy to forget that you ever felt connected. I can help you remember times that you felt connected and explore what that was like for you.
As we start to find glimpses of past stories that were hopeful, you can reclaim parts of you that may have been lost. There may have been disappointment in those stories that cloud your current judgment about yourself. I will be there with you as you go through the ups and downs of your story.
We will build from past experiences and current situations to get clarity for you. I will help you remember the times when you were clear; discover your current values, wants, and needs that are missing in your life; and bring clarity to the forefront.
These pieces will help you find the inner strength to build the confidence on lost values. Confidence to express your desires and needs that fulfill you. This will take you back to connection to self and others. When you have clarity and confidence, connection will come.
I’ll listen and identify various patterns of thinking, emotional reactions, and beliefs. I will be really curious about how and why these patterns were formed. I will keep my questions as open-ended as possible, and in doing this it will help you make new discoveries about yourself.
Therapy is not about giving advice – rather, I’m a facilitator. I’ve been told my grounded, calm nature allows others to feel at ease and allows my clients to be open to these new insights.
Some of my clients know exactly what they want to work on, because they have had a history of processing in therapy. Clients that have never been to therapy may not know what they want and may simply want to “feel better.”
Ready to peel back the layers to reveal a better you?
